City Seeks Assistance for Snow Operations

December 30, 2009 – The City will pursue eligibility for state or federal assistance to help with response and recovery efforts following a record December snowfall and Christmas Blizzard.  The City is in communication with officials in Douglas, Sarpy and Washington Counties regarding the disaster application.

Mayor Suttle has declared a Snow Emergency in the City of Omaha effective immediately, a necessary first step in the disaster assistance process.  The Snow Emergency prohibits parking along designated routes.  Vehicles parked in the restricted areas will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense.

Snow clearing operations continue and are now focused on clearing restricted lanes and reducing the accumulated mounds of snow that obstruct vision, particularly at intersections along main roads.

Public Works will periodically provide updates on street conditions online at: http://www.cityofomaha.org/pw/snow/.
