FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT BENEFIT OVERVIEW
The Flexible Spending Account plans are offered through AFLAC. Employees may save money on their unreimbursed medical expenses, dependent care, and/or parking expenses by setting aside tax deferred deductions from their paychecks. Employees can choose one or all three of the following accounts.
Medical Reimbursement Account:
- Employees may elect up to $3,500 each calendar year for medical and dental expenses not paid by insurance
- Employees may also claim purchases made for over-the-counter medications
- Deductions are pre-taxed so employees will save money through out the year
- The total election amount for the year is deducted over all 26 pay periods
- Employees that elect an unreimbursed medical account will receive a "Pay Now" debit card that can be used for co-pays and other out of pocket medical expenses
- Claims can also be faxed and will be processed daily with a 72-hour turnaround
Dependent Care Reimbursement Account:
- Employees may elect up to $5,000 per year for expenses incurred for the care of dependent children up to the age of 13
- Deducations are pre-taxed so the employee will save will save money through out the year
- The total election amount will be deducted over all 26 pay periods
- Claims can be faxed and filed daily with processing within 72 hours of receipt
Qualified Parking Account:
- Employees may elect up to $2,200 each year for work related parking expenses
- Deductions are pre-taxed so the employee will save money through out the year
- The total election amount for the year is spread over all 26 pay periods

AFLAC also offers additional voluntary insurance benefit plans. The premiums for these coverages are paid by the employee. The County offers payroll deduction for premium payments which makes it convenient. Employees who are interested will need to contact AFLAC directly to sign up.  Contact information is located on the "Quick Links" tab.
